Skimming Plaster

Premium gypsum-based finishing plasters for ultra-smooth, paint-ready walls and ceilings. RhinoLite, Metacote and Casofour — all in stock at our Edenvale warehouse.

Our Skimming Plaster Range

Skimming plaster is the final step that separates a good job from a great one. Applied over gypsum boards, jointed surfaces or concrete, it creates the ultra-smooth, white finish that paint needs to look its best. We stock the leading brands in 40kg bags — always on the shelf.

Skimmed ceiling in progress

Skimming plaster is a premium gypsum-based finishing plaster for creating ultra-smooth, white surfaces on walls and ceilings. Applied in one or two thin coats over gypsum board, jointed surfaces or concrete, it fills micro-imperfections and produces a flawless base for paint. No pre-treatment required on most substrates. Fast-drying formula for high productivity on site. We stock RhinoLite, Metacote and Casofour Handskim — the most trusted brands in South Africa. All available in 40kg bags, with Metacote also available in 10kg for smaller jobs and touch-ups.

Ultra-Smooth Finish

Creates a flawless, paint-ready surface that reduces paint consumption and improves the final decorated appearance significantly.

Fast Drying

Fast-drying formula means less time between coats and higher productivity on site — important on commercial projects with tight programmes.

Consistent Workability

Works consistently even with alkaline water common in Gauteng — no curing issues, no cracking from water quality variations.

Broad Compatibility

Adheres directly to gypsum board, concrete, brick and previously jointed surfaces — minimal prep required on most substrates.

What is skimming plaster used for?
A fine, smooth plaster used to skim gypsum board, joints, screw heads and surface imperfections — giving a perfect, paint-ready finish on walls and ceilings.
Do I need to skim the whole wall or just the joints?
Both options are valid. Use jointing plaster to fill joints and cover screws only, or use skimming plaster for a full skim of the entire surface — a full skim gives a superior painted finish.
How much do I need for a 3m x 3m room?
For a full 2-coat skim: 2–3 x 40kg bags. For jointing only: 1 x 20kg bag of jointing plaster. If it’s a small job or touch-up, Metacote is also available in 10kg. Bring your room dimensions and we’ll calculate the exact quantities.
Can I use skimming plaster on old painted walls?
Yes — scrape off any loose or flaking paint, apply bonding liquid as a primer, then skim. The bonding liquid prevents the dry surface from pulling moisture out of the plaster too quickly.
Can I skim over fire board or moisture board?
Yes — both fire board (pink) and moisture board (green) accept skimming plaster directly. Prime the board surface with bonding liquid before applying for best adhesion.
Is skimming plaster the same as cornice adhesive?
No — cornice adhesive is thicker, stickier and sets quickly for bonding cornices. Skimming plaster is finer, smoother and designed for flat finishing. Do not substitute one for the other.
